Calendar of Events
We also celebrate; Maori Language Week, Samoan Language Week, Conservation Week and other special days such as Daffodil Day, St Patricks Day, Diwali.
To celebrate the Japanese spring festival Setsubun, kaiako Kaho introduced the tamariki to the history of this special occassion and some of the stories surrounding it. The children enjoyed being involved in Setsubun art experiences as well as getting to cook their own enomaki, carefully following the respectful way that we eat this delicious dish.
Waitangi Day 2024
To acknowledge Waitangi Day this year, the CBELC kaiako introduced the tamariki to the concept of a treaty, including what it means and why we have it. We also discussed how we can honour Te Tiriti in our centre, and we used this time to reflect on ways to incorporate more te reo and tikanga Māori into our every day practice. Finally, we decorated our classrooms with some of the children's art, inspired by the Māori culture and traditional colours, patterns and textures.
Lunar New Year 2024
At CBELC we enjoy collaborating with the wider community by bringing in experts to share their knowledge with our tamariki. For Lunar New Year this year, we decided to invite some parents in to the classroom to help expand the children's opportunities and comprehension. Our learners engaged in arts and crafts, story telling, cooking and dramatic play opportunities that were inspired by this special cultural celebration.
